Book Review: Sideshow: Capturing Archetypes Vol. 4 *Gift Idea*

Sideshow: Capturing Archetypes Vol. 4 Writer: Andrew Farago Review by Adam Ray Art books are a staple for those who truly love a niche hobby and want to look at its media very closely, or for those who like books big and heavy enough to commit bodily harm or build a house. My own collection features the artwork from a beloved card game, but now I've expanded my collection to include this gem. Sideshow Collectibles are the masters of exquisitely detailed, hyper-realistic statues of beloved characters from across popular culture. This book is a treasure trove of detailed photographs, reference art, design sketches, and the process of making some of their best recent pieces. Collected like this, we get to see the process of how these amazing works of art are made. It's easy to be blown away by how good they look visually, but in this book, as well laid out as it is, the behind-the-scenes glimpses give a real insight into true art as a process. The words of Andrew Farago have been

Fan Retrospectives: 'Shang-Chi' and Identity

Image
Review by Eric Lee Last week, my Chinese immigrant in-laws stayed at my place and we watched "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings" together. It was an interesting experience.  Also, MAJOR spoilers follow for anyone who hasn't seen the movie! Shang-Chi is an Asian American movie Despite the film having a lot of dialogue spoken in Mandarin, it's a distinctly Asian American movie, with an Asian American perspective. The director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is an Asian American. The film's two main stars: Simu Liu and Akwafina are both Asian American. Yes, I know Liu is actually Canadian, but the term encompasses all of North America. My in-laws are not Asian American. They've lived in China for much of their lives and hold a very traditional Chinese belief system. On the other hand, I'm a 2nd generation Asian American. My grandparents were the ones who immigrated to the Bay Area, not my parents. So I'm two generations removed from my Chinese

A Way Out of the Dark - Alan Wake 2 Officially Announced

Image
Article by Adam Ray We've received that Alan Wake 2 is coming to multiple platforms in 2023. The Annual Gaming Awards are always an exciting date on my calendar. I'm ready to reap the rewards of the free Primogems coming thanks to Genshin Impact winning best mobile game. Just in time for Arataki Itto. The bigger news for me personally from that night came from Sam Lake of Remedy Games. Alan Wake 2  is officially coming! Watch the preview trailer and his comments on the game with the host right here. The tone of the trailer matches what they said perfectly. We're getting something very different from our writer protagonist and from Remedy Games as a whole. We remember the first Alan Wake  being the narratively rich action adventure, with an intense challenge curve and the most satisfying moment of shooting down shadowy entities while retro glam rock played behind us. We can expect a much more gritty, horror survival experience from this game. I personally have next to no exp

DO IT, BUY THE BOOK - NOVEMBER WRAP UP

By Fay Clark Listen, I had the best time calming reading everything I loved for the November DO IT BUY THE BOOK CHALLENGES. Here is what I got up to. If you ever want to keep up live feed style, you can catch it all on our Instagram  @FanUniverses . Now on to the books. Challenge 1 - Read a book by one of your favourite authors - Daughter of the Deep by Rick Riordan. I love everything that Rick has written. His first Mythology series Percy Jackson is still one of my favourite things to re-read. This book, however is a little different. All about a nautical academy that takes on kids with special abilities and trains them to help the people of the world. Only... things don't quite go according to plan.  ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5. Challenge 2 - Read a book with your favourite colour on the cover - Not my Problem by Ciara Smyth. I have only read two of Ciara's books, but this author has become an insta buy for me now. I've loved both of her stories. The romance is super cute, but the main plotli
