In Search Of Darkness: Part III - Take Your Final Journey With The 80's Horror Superdoc

Article by John Hammond

The highly demanded sequel to the critically acclaimed In Search of Darkness documentary invites fans to decide the fate of films featured in the final installment.

In Search of Darkness: Part III, the closing chapter in the worldwide ‘80s horror documentary In Search of Darkness saga from CREATORVC, IS NOW available to the public for a limited-time membership until midnight on October 31st (Halloween) at 80shorrordoc.com.

Building on the momentum of two celebrated super docs and high demand from fans for more, In Search of Darkness: Part III promises to offer another 4+ hours of deeper cuts and to highlight the “underbelly” of ‘80s horror movies.

This final chapter in the saga moves beyond the focus of In Search of Darkness: Part 1 & 2, paying special attention to the straight-to-VHS era and championing the titles historically found at the very bottom of the video rental shelf.

Thanks to the fine people involved with the wonderful 80’s Horror Documentaries, In Search of Darkness (in particular, Brittany Sandler who I am very grateful to), I've been lucky enough to receive the press release for the final part of the ISoD trilogy. As a fan of 80’s horror, coming across the first part was such a treat, because it was just about perfect. Part 2 came along and blew my mind, and I was happy to review it for Fantastic Universes earlier this year.

Now, Part 3 is in the works, and I’ll admit to being hellishly giddy about it. While it’s exciting that this is the 3rd part, this entry will look at, as previously stated, the "underbelly" of 80’s horror movies. Moving away from the focus of the first two parts, this documentary will look at those straight-to-video flicks that you would generally find at the bottom of video store shelves. Believe me when I say that, on my visits to VideoVision back in the day, I could sometimes be found on bended knee, searching for classic horror, the VHS covers particularly standing out.

Furthermore, this installment of the ISoD trilogy also gives the chance for those who support the membership drive/campaign, to help film production of this final chapter and ‘decide the fate of films featured…’ by way of becoming a member of an exclusive Video Club.

Add in all the returning cast members and new faces that will become part of this documentary, trust me when I say that horror films are in for a real treat.

Just take a look at the official trailer for more:

If this has tickled your fancy, then I really do suggest that you take a look at the website and the fantastic packages they have for those wishing to support the production of this documentary.

I know that I'll be doing my bit and there are some great incentives on taking out the membership, including getting your name in the credits.

I’d be interested in knowing if you’re interested in this and whether you’ll be joining up, supporting, and becoming a member.

From In Search of Darkness: Part III writer/director David Weiner:

“When we completed In Search of Darkness: Part II, I was afraid that we might have hammered the final nail into the ‘80s horror coffin. But the overwhelming encouragement and enthusiasm from fans for even more exploration and discussion of ‘80s horror goodness fills me with joy. There is an almost never-ending supply of dark and quirky films to mine from the dusty bottom shelves of our collective basement video stores. And this final, extended celebration of the era in In Search of Darkness: Part III may be the most nostalgic and heartfelt yet.”
