DO IT, BUY THE BOOK- July, Challenge 4 Recommendations

By Fay Clark

This was a fun idea, at least I'd like to think so! If you're like me you have shelves of unread books! So just pick any two that are top most on your list to read and flip a coin! Let the universe chose for you.

Challenge 4 - Pick 2 books, and let a coin toss decide which one you read.

Recommendation 1 - The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse by Charlie Mackesy. Enter the world of Charlie's four unlikely friends, discover their story and their most important life lessons. The boy, the mole, the fox and the horse have been shared millions of times online - perhaps you've seen them? They've also been recreated by children in schools and hung on hospital walls. They sometimes even appear on lamp posts and on cafe and bookshop windows. Here, you will find them together in this book of Charlie's most-loved drawings, adventuring into the Wild and exploring the thoughts and feelings that unite us all.

Recommendation 2 - Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. Four septuagenarians with a few tricks up their sleeves. A female cop with her first big case. A brutal murder Welcome to… The Thursday Murder Club. In a peaceful retirement village, four unlikely friends meet weekly in the Jigsaw Room to discuss unsolved crimes; together they call themselves The Thursday Murder Club. Elizabeth, Joyce, Ibrahim and Ron might be pushing eighty but they still have a few tricks up their sleeves. When a local developer is found dead with a mysterious photograph left next to the body, the Thursday Murder Club suddenly find themselves in the middle of their first live case. As the bodies begin to pile up, can our unorthodox but brilliant gang catch the killer, before it’s too late?

Recommendation 3 - The Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. Jess Aarons has been practicing all summer so he can be the fastest runner in the fifth grade. And he almost is, until the new girl in school, Leslie Burke, outpaces him. The two become fast friends and spend most days in the woods behind Leslie's house, where they invent an enchanted land called Terabithia. One morning, Leslie goes to Terabithia without Jess and a tragedy occurs. It will take the love of his family and the strength that Leslie has given him for Jess to be able to deal with his grief.

Recommendation 4 - The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank. 'June, 1942: I hope I will be able to confide everything to you, as I have never been able to confide in anyone, and I hope you will be a great source of comfort and support.' In Amsterdam, in the summer of 1942, the Nazis forced teenager Anne Frank and her family into hiding. For over two years, they, another family and a German dentist lived in a 'secret annexe', fearing discovery. All that time, Anne kept a diary. Since its publication in 1947, Anne Frank's diary has been read by tens of millions of people.

Recommendation 5 - All my Friends are Superheroes by Andrew Kaufman. All Tom's friends really are superheroes. There's the Ear, the Spooner, the Impossible Man. Tom even married a superhero, the Perfectionist. But at their wedding, the Perfectionist was hypnotized (by ex-boyfriend Hypno, of course) to believe that Tom is invisible. Nothing he does can make her see him. Six months later, she's sure that Tom has abandoned her. So she's moving to Vancouver. She'll use her superpower to make Vancouver perfect and leave all the heartbreak in Toronto. With no idea Tom's beside her, she boards an airplane in Toronto. Tom has until the wheels touch the ground in Vancouver to convince her he's visible, or he loses her forever.

After challenge 4, we of course have out last challenge.

Challenge 5 - Read The Adventure Zone: Here There Be Gerblins by The McElroy's and Casey Pietsch. Recommendation by our resident DnD master, Adam Ray!

I really hope you enjoy getting random recommendations as much as I like finding them for you! Keep reading and having fun but for now...
