Image
Article by Fay Clark This might be the easiest recommendation post I'll ever write. The expanse of graphic novels I have will blow your mind. I'm going to keep my recommendations for this challenge to independent comics, as I feel like people will know less about these ones. If you need any help with DC or Marvel based recommendations, come ask me on our Instagram @Fanuniverses. In two years, they are dead. A world where gods are the ultimate pop stars and pop stars are the ultimate gods. But remember: just because you’re immortal, doesn’t mean you’re going to live forever. Recommendation 2 - Blackbird by Sam Humphries.  Nina Rodriguez knows a hidden magical world run by ruthless cabals is hiding in Los Angeles. When a giant magic beast kidnaps her sister, Nina must confront her past (and h...

Review: Doctor Who: Missy #2

Image
Doctor Who: Missy #2 Writer: Jody Houser Artist: Roberta Ingranata Color Artist: Enrica Angiolini with Shari Chankhamma Letterers: Comicraft’s Richard Starkings Review by Steve J. Ray Summary Doctor Who: Missy #2 has hit the stands and broken barriers. In this issue, Missy makes her daring escape from Stormcage Prison – with the help of an old friend – and we even get a cameo appearance from the most underrated Doctor of the modern era, 12, as played by the inimitable Peter Capaldi. Positives I’ve been reading and collecting Doctor Who comics for 44 years, and in that time many legendary comics creators have charted the course of the TARDIS and her legendary occupant. Writers like Pat Mills, John Wagner, Scott Gray, and a legendary run by Steve Parkhouse. Then we’ve had artists like Dave Gibbons, John Ridgway, and Martin Geraghty… to name just a few. For me, Jody Houser and Roberta Ingranata, along with color artist Enric Angiolini, and letterers Comicraft, have joined the elit...

Half-Elf, Pink, and the Bard - A Review of All For 1

Image
Review by Adam Ray I am constantly scouring the internets for the tastiest content in and around the things I love. It's kind of all I do. New ways to optimise how I play Battle Royales. New decks in my plethora of card games. New things to bring into play in Dungeons and Dragons . So when my attention happens across excellent visual media like this, not only am I all over it, I'll rewatch this excellent slice of internet TV multiple times and look into the very attractive and talented people who made it. All For 1 is a web series on YouTube by Deerstalker Productions from Australia. These independent film makers have done wonderful things with cosplay showcases in the worlds of League of Legends , Overwatch , and AFK Arena . When you have professional grade costuming and make up, why wouldn't you use it to make cosplay? It's the right thing to do. The first episode of their Dungeons and Dragons themed web series, came out tail end of 2019. It features a Fighter, Bar...

Review: Geiger #2

Image
Geiger – Book Two Writer: Geoff Johns Artist: Gary Frank Color Artist: Brad Anderson Letterer: Rob Leigh Review by Steve J. Ray I will admit that even though the first issue of this new series was one I liked, it still left me a little on the fence. Geiger #2 however, has dragged me right off it and firmly planted my feet in the irradiated sands on the other side. Issue #1 was the ticket into the theme park, but the follow up has lured me onto the newest and best ride in there. Real People Geoff Johns has brought life and soul into this book with another brief look into the title character's past, and by introducing some people that I feel will have a huge impact on his future. The brilliant part is that a whole bunch of them are going to be big trouble... and that's just the nice ones! Gary Frank and Brad Anderson are the perfect art team for this book. This titanic twosome already blew my mind with their work on DC Comics’  Doomsday Clock , and now, as impossible as this m...
