Review by Fay Clark

Recently my favourite disaster child has been trying his hand at teaching. We get to see more of his… unique teaching style in Red Hood Outlaw #39. Generation Outlaw seem to be enjoying themselves, and Jason seems to be trying very hard, or hardly at all. I can’t really tell, and I’m not sure that he can either. We see a lot of progress in this issue, and if it was up to me everyone would get an A!
Scott Lobdell has this amazing ability to make me forget all my woes when reading his work. You become so focused on the awesomeness of what’s happening on the page, that you forget what’s happening in real life. (Don’t read and walk, I learned that one the hard way). Lobdell seems to almost enjoy making Jason’s life difficult. Every time you think he’s in the clear, that he can take a breather, sip a beer… WHAMMO! Someone somewhere does something that needs Red Hood’s immediate attention. Damn, let the man breath for a minute!

Teamwork makes the Dream work

You can tell that the entire team is having such a fun time with this story, as the attention to character interactions in Red Hood #39 was especially great. The Generation Outlaw kids are really coming into their own as a team and I have a feeling that Jason wants them to learn to lean on each other and have the kind of found family that he did… because, you know, that worked out so well for him.
Kenneth Rocafort and Steve Firchow have once again blown me away with the artwork in this issue. There’s a particular few panels that I just couldn’t stop staring at. I love the double page spreads, and there’s on in Red Hood Outlaw #39 that’s one of the best ideas I’ve seen in a while. It really showcases their artistic talent. We see a special couple of characters pop back up in this issue and I still love their re-designs!

Conclusion

Jason Todd, I love you man. I will never get tired of reading about your shenanigans. I can tell you right now there are a load more on the way. The final few panels… pheeeeweeee! I’m looking forward to reading the next few issues and seeing what is going to happen with my favourite people. I can tell you right now, it’s gonna be fun… violent, and fun!
