Exclusive Interview: Jessica Lucas – Tabitha Galavan From ‘Gotham’

Interview by Steve J. Ray

This is the first of three exclusive interviews with Jessica Lucas, and other members from the cast of Gotham.
The weekend of May 27th and 28th I attended the first annual Heroes & Villains FanFest in London, where I had the opportunity and privilege to see – and even meet – some the actors from my favorite TV shows.
The convention was packed with stars from all the DC Universe series’. Gotham had the largest representation of all of the shows in attendance.
Over the next few days we will be posting highlights from the celebrity Q&A panel, which featured David Mazouz (Bruce Wayne), Sean Pertwee (Alfred Pennyworth), Robin Lord Taylor (Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin), Drew Powell (Butch), Milo Ventimiglia (Jason Lennon/The Ogre), and Jessica Lucas: (Tabitha Galavan/Tigress).

The Tigress Sharpens Her Claws

Jessica is a star of stage and screen. She was born and raised in Canada, and is an accomplished singer and actress who made her acting debut at just seven years of age. Jessica very kindly spared a little time to talk to me.
Steve J. Ray: Good afternoon, welcome to London. Thank you so much for coming over and for giving us some of your time.
Jessica Lucas: It’s great to be here. London’s been so great, and the welcome has been amazing.
SJR: Gotham is an incredible show. I was so pleased to hear that a fourth season is definitely going ahead. That’s terrific news.
JL: It really is.
SJR: Did working on the show spark an interest in reading comics, or were you already a fan?
JL: Oh, I was a fan! I loved Batman growing up. The comics, the stories. I watched the animated show. Now we’re doing our thing and adding to the story.
SJR: That’s the unique aspect of Gotham. It’s adding to and expanding the legend.
JL: For sure. I love the movies too, though. Christopher Nolan’s movies with Christian Bale are so great.
SJR: Would you like to see some of the characters from the comics, or the movies appear on Gotham?
JL: Bane! Can you imagine? I know time-wise, that may not be right… but maybe someone to face Bruce Wayne or Gordon who has the steroid, who has that strength and power.
SJR: Wow! Yeah. I didn’t think Bane would be do-able, but a precursor, someone who uses an experimental version of Venom. That would be really cool.
JL: Yes. Like what happened to the captain after being infected with the poisoned blood.
SJR: The blood could may be a component. Good call.
JL: (Smiles)
SJR: Who’s an actor you’d like to work with in the future?
JL: I’d love to work with Morena (Baccarin – Lee Thompkins). She’s great. A great person and a great actor. She’s done so much! I love her work. Lee’s a great character, too… the complete opposite of Tabitha. I think that there could be a great story in there. I’d really love some scenes with Morena.
SJR: I’m sure that the viewers would love that too! Thanks so much for your time. Those were some really interesting answers. You’ve definitely given me some new ideas and things to think about.
JL: Thank you! Those were great questions.

It’s A Wrap

Jessica was so warm and friendly. The excitement and enthusiasm in her expressions, when she thought of Bane and working with Morena Baccarin was infectious. I was so impressed with her enthusiasm and general Bat-Knowledge.
She was the first Gotham cast-member I spoke to, and she set a great precedent.
Keep your eyes peeled for the Gotham panel and more interviews with stars from Supergirl, Arrow and DC's Legends Of Tomorrow.
We’ll be waiting.
